Excavation and retention all but done

After two and a half years of demolition, excavation and shoring works the Queen’s Wharf Brisbane site has changed direction and is about to start going up.

Over the last 18 months excavation and shoring contractor Probuild has dug their way through 400,000m3 of material, installed 176 piles, 2300 rock anchors and constructed shoring around a 650 linear metre site perimeter.

Probuild Project Manager Mark Jones said, “We have completed the bulk excavation of the largest inner-city basement in Queensland and managed the logistics of over 28,000 trucks entering and leaving the CBD without any major issues.”

“This success has been in part due to the team effort among all parties including Council, the State Government and our client – Destination Brisbane Consortium.”

Destination Brisbane Consortium Project Director Simon Crooks commended Probuild on their professionalism over the course of their work on the Queen’s Wharf Brisbane project.

“Probuild have managed the logistics of an inner-city construction site extremely well with minimal disruption to the Brisbane community and an exemplary safety record,” he said.

“They have done a fantastic job in completing the excavation and shoring package within the timeframe required and worked with us to ensure a smooth transition between principal contractors.”

As bulk excavation comes to an end, the principal contractor will transition to Multiplex, the recently appointed preferred contractor, for construction of the main integrated resort development.

As is evidenced from the two tower cranes already on site, Multiplex is gearing up ready for the start of construction in July.

By the end of 2019 the site will start to look very different as the towers start to come up out of the ground and the missing section of William St starts to be rebuilt.
