Queen’s Wharf Brisbane Sky Deck takes-off at global aviation conference

More than 900 senior delegates from across the Asia Pacific aviation industry got to experience a taste of our future world-class Sky Deck when they attended Routes Asia 2018 in Brisbane earlier this month.

The three-day global conference attracted delegates from more than 95 airlines, over 145 airports, and more than 20 tourism authorities throughout the region, to help plan future flight services to and from Brisbane.

As major host supporter, our lead consortium partner – The Star Entertainment Group – themed its lounge area as our iconic Sky Deck using 2.5m high lightboxes; and offered delegates a chance to experience the future development through immersive virtual reality technology.

The Star Entertainment Group Managing Director Queensland Geoff Hogg spoke on a panel discussion, highlighting the importance of working with industry to grow tourism and attract more direct flight routes to and from Brisbane.

“We’re proud to work closely with industry bodies such as Tourism Australia, Tourism & Events Queensland, and Brisbane Marketing to promote our development and be part of their conversations and meetings with international airlines,” Mr Hogg said.

“We share a strong confidence in the growth of our city and we want to ensure they have the support they need to build the business case for new direct routes and ensure existing direct routes keep coming here.

“Brisbane’s future is incredibly exciting and attractive thanks to a number of projects occurring around the city including Brisbane Airport’s new parallel runway that will effectively double its capacity, a new cruise ship terminal, and the proposed Brisbane Live entertainment venue.

“Along with our consortium partners, we are investing $3 billion to deliver the future world-class Queen’s Wharf Brisbane integrated resort in the CBD.

“Once built, we expect our development will attract an additional 1.39 million visitors to Brisbane and Queensland each year.

“We expect a large portion of this growth will come from Asia and China where the more affluent middle-class continues to expand almost exponentially.

“Asia is Queensland’s largest international source market in terms of visitors and visitor expenditure, attracting 1.2 million visitors in FY2017 who spent about $2.6 billion.

“The Asian middle-class want great local food and shopping experiences, stunning natural and safe environment, exciting events, and high-end accommodation – we have the opportunity to capture a large share of this through our game-changing development.”

Held at the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre from 18 to 20 March, Routes Asia 2018 was hosted by Brisbane Airport Corporation in partnership with a taskforce of senior executives from Tourism Australia, Tourism & Events Queensland, and Brisbane Marketing.
